What is
important in buying a computer?
There has always a gap between two generations in any time
of history. In modern times, a generation of those people who have hardly seen
the basic radio sets in their childhood and primetime, today when see a kid of
their age then; he is mesmerized how many things are available for this chap.
Not just that his level of awareness about technology is amazing, it is more
amazing that human mind could be so powerful even at this tender age. Coping up
with is already an uphill task but more than anything else the problem arises
when the ‘present’ generation child asks us for some high-tech item something like a computer.
Since you have been from a different time, how the earth can you identify which is the
best choice? Afterall you have never been to computers and the computer
technology is changing with this pace? You even don’t know the price.
It is not just the cost of the computer in today’s market; today
you have so many options available to you that
you may be easily overwhelmed by these options available to you and end
up without a purchase because you can let your money loose which you don’t
undetstand completely. ‘Buying vegetable seems more comfortable than a computer’
you can mutter, but sooner or later you will have to realize this fact that you
are getting outdated technologically rapidly like that technology itself which gets outdated in every six month
or in a year. So the question remains still how you can cope up with this
situation when you want to purchase a computer but you don’t know what to do?
Her are some of the simple and easy to do guidelines while
going for a computer purchase and which, I am sure, will be a boost in
restoring your confidence on your knowledge of the latest gadgets and gizmos:
1. Survey the
Market:
Take it; no seller
on earth, is ready to underrate his computer than any other seller. Now
visualize this situation: Confident with the knowledge of that crash course on
computer terminology last night you have been through, you go inside a store
and within very few minutes; you see you are in sea when the sellers makes so big
sounding words that you completely loose your orientation and get confuse for
choosing the best deal for you.
That is the time you should take a pause without caring
what the retailer would react if you don’t make any purchase. Come in fresh air
and look for another store and head towards it.
By the time you enter into second store, you will see that
your level of confidence is far enhanced in the second store and as you are
entering into the store equipped with some fancy words which you have just
heard from the first seller!! Now here you can exchange some of the
technological terminology with this seller. The moment he realize that you know
something about the computers he asks you reasonable rates. That’s it.
Trust me; your confidence level is the biggest role player
in any deal. You need not to rush for a computer purchase in the very first
store just because the sellers sound very good. Just gauge the market and set
your own course only after a good reconnaissance.
2. Set pre
standards:
When you leave your home for purchase of computer, you will
need to work out on:
(a) Price you can
afford.
(b) The features
of the computer.
(c) And the
occasion and time you are purchasing the PC.
There are so many
occasions when you can get a deal; at least better than a plain deal which you
get on any common day anyway. Any big event, social occasions are such times
when you can go for the kill. Apart from this, you need to seriously look for
the online price of the item. I got this experience only after I lost some
money when I saw that I purchased an item from a store which was 15 Kilometer
away from my place and was around 10 % costlier than an online deal. Not just
that you should also compare the price and deal among online stores as well. Do
you know like a mega sale in a physical store there is a super Sunday like
online even when you can purchase anything at a very reasonable price.
I purchased an original watch with a good price (At least that’s what I thought) from a
relatively low profile online store and had not I compared it with the watch
from other big store where the prices are whopping
40% higher than the previous store I would have lost a big money.
It does not mean that the first store was always good
because it sounds selling goods at lower price. There may be some other items in
the first store which are costlier from the big store where the prices for a
specific item were found high. Apart from this, you have to be vigilant for any
online store which can con you if it is not a well-recognized name like ebay,
amzon etc. But with increasing trend these days, online shopping is gaining
pace and the process can be expected more streamlined in near future.
3. Identify the
purpose:
Ask honestly what for you want to purchase a computer? It
just because you want to have one or there is really a guanine requirement.
Consider this:
Is this a computer
on which your kids are going to hone their gaming skill or the one on which your
elder son is going to write a software as an advanced programmer? Is it you who
want to browse facebook and news site or you have a plan to upgrade your
computer in future? Or all of this?
The answer is simple. You need to look for what application
is predominant all of this. For example, in the case of gaming you need to have
a good graphic card or you will see most of the modern computer game won’t run
on your PC. Similarly, if you have plan to upgrade your computer in future, you
need to emphasise on the motherboardpart where you would be accommodating the
new technology in future.
4. Save price by
going for open source softwares:
Microsoft, Adobe, etc are some of the sites which give excellent smart
programmes and softwares with much capabilities and features; I don’t purchase
those and I know you also won’t if I tell you that you never need those extra
features which they provide anyway, until unless you are not the master of that
application. For those additional capabilities, these business giants charge
you a big amount. So in my view, it is not a good deal for spending on something
which you are never going to use.
But then your requirement of software and programmes stays
at the place. So how to fulfill the requirement?
Luckily, the world is not that much cruel place to live in.
There are many unsung around us..the heros who have given us the array of the
substitutes of these softwares of the giants, for the people like you and me
which; at a minimal price, are highly
competitive with the softwares and programme of these professional companies.
One such example is here which is an
equally impressive application as Microsoft office. So just stop spending hundreds
of dollars and migrate to open
source softwares which are free of cost and
genuine.
5.Don’t purchase warranty
for any electronic item for additional price:
A golden rule! Surprisingly in the spree of buying an
electronic item; be it even a computer, we tend to buy an additional warranty
for it because we are at that moment, in love with the product. These days
companies already give the warranty and aftersale service &support for a
reasonable good time. Now the strange part with electronic is that it will go
unserviceable most of the time when either it is in the initial phase of usage
(Say 1-day to one week) or after a relatively long period of time say after
years. So effectively, the additional warranty which you have purchased for a
period of one or two year, goes in vain as most probably; your computer will
not fall sick in that period. And when it will need help, the warranty might
already expire. My computer; for last
six years is running smartly after first two day of purchase it burnt 2 SMPS
and fan making a lot of noise.
But my real advice for purchasing a computer will be that
you should develop a good relation with your local seller which could assemble
computer for you. Yes! You should buy a assembled computer from someone with
whom you could establish personal connectivity for future. You should never buy
a branded computer.
If you compare the price of a branded and an assembled
computer you will notice a huge difference of prices. An assembled computer is
equally protected in terms of warranty. Each component of the computer is protected
by warranty of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) which, in case of failure
can be replaced by your local vendor with a very low price in compare to a well
recognized company which also follow the same procedure but with a high price
tag.
Without going to deeper technicality of the computer world,
I have tried to bring forward a simple but sensible approach for buying a
computer. Mind it, it is your hard money and deserves to be well spent. Just of
some small awareness tips can save you a lot of money with high end experience
on your desktop. Hope you would find these tips useful not just buying a
computer but any electronic or any other item after all; technology is meant
for the comfort of life. A well thought and well home work for computer purchase
can save you good money and that is what my purpose is here all about.
